West Midlands Disability Swimming Club

Entry Guidelines and Criteria.

The West Midlands Disability Swimming Club is the regional body for competitive swimmers with physical, sensory or learning disabilities.
Swimming for the region could be a pathway to the British Swimming World Class Programmes.
The following criteria have been drawn up to encourage more swimmers to join the squad.

For any swimmers who are not currently a member of a swimming club we will endeavour to access training at local swimming clubs if required.

If you are already in a local swimming club, access to your training programmes would be useful so as not to conflict with your cyclic sessions.

Where opportunities are available to attend training sessions for additional galas and development clinics, priority will be given to those swimmers who attend the regular monthly training sessions.

All members must be able to:

.  Stop in the water on command and be able to act on coach/lifeguard instructions at all times.
.  Show commitment to regular training once a month.
.  Abide by the Club rules.
.  All members on joining the squad will need to be category 2 which can be obtained through your ASA Club or through West Midlands Disability Swimming Club.
.  Be eligible for:
    British Swimming Functional Classification/UK ASA Registration/BBS Registration    
   +  (Deaf swimmers)

Non Ambulant (wheelchair users) Non ASA Member
.  Must be able to swim a minimum of 25 metres of ASA recognised stoke on front or back.
.  Gain safe breathing position in deep water.

Ambulant (Non wheelchair users) Member of ASA Club
.  Must be able to swim at least 2 whole strokes within ASA recognised standards.
.  Must be able to swim between 200 metres and 400 metres continuously.

Disclaimer
West Midlands Disability Swimming Club is a new and emerging squad with a lot of potential; it is about the training the elite of the region. As a time evolves time-trails will be held and the swimmers who reach these times will be invited to represent the region.
All swimmers must be expected to represent the region at the nationals.
