Records for Disability swimmers
30 Apr 2008 13:00

Local swimmers were in action at the British International Disability Championships in Sheffield over the last weekend in April.

On day one, Sascha Kindred (Leominster) claimed victory in the 50m Butterfly in a time of 32.59 (989 points). Kindred was delighted with his swim, and will be making the 50m Butterfly one of his main events in Beijing, especially since claiming the European record in the event 3 weeks ago.

Eleanor Simmonds (Boldmere and Swansea Performance) showed her potential as she swam an excellent race to claim the gold medal in the women's 400m Freestyle, just ahead of Leominster's Nyree Lewis.

Day two saw Fran O'Connor from Wyre Forest break the S7 British record in the women's 50m Freestyle in a time of 36.06. Fran was delighted with the time and record, but disappointed to have just missed out on the Paralympic qualification time.

On day three, Fran broke the 100m Freestyle S7 British record twice, once in the heat and again in the final. Her time of 1:19.62 was again just outside the Beijing qualification time, but she was delighted to have achieved new PBs and British records.

Nyree Lewis (Leominster) claimed a bronze medal in the 100m Freestyle in a time of 1:23.21 and a total of 806 points in the S6 category.

Claire Cashmore (Wyre Forest and Kelly College) set a new British record in the 100m Breaststroke final, setting a new standard of 1:26.62 in the SB8 category.
