GB Club record broken at Birmingham meet
24 Mar 2008 11:09

The City of Birmingham 4x100m female medley team broke the GB Club team record (subject to ratification) at the City of Birmingham Open Meet on Saturday.

The girls knocked a massive 4 seconds off the previous record set by Loughborough University in December 2000.

Alex Hooper, Sophie Caul, Terri Dunning and Lauren Collins set an impressive new record of 4:03.63. The split times were:

ALEX HOOPER 1.01.83
SOPHIE CAUL 1.08.83
TERRI DUNNING 57.60
LAUREN COLLINS 55.37

In an electric atmosphere, the expectant crowd brought the house down at the final touch. With the team always infront of the clock from the first leg the tension began to rise as Lauren Collins took to the water for the last leg nearly three seconds inside the required split times. Shrugging off recent form, she brought the team home to the delight of her team mates.

Peaking at personal best on each leg, the girls stormed to a win which delighted the excited spectators and sent 'sleepy Stechford' into hyperdrive.

Fern Davies (City of Birmingham) was also on form at the meet when she broke the West Midland Junior 200m Butterfly short course record, setting a new standard of 2:16.67.

Ryan Morris and James Burden (City of Coventry) were also in record breaking form as they set new West Midland Regional short course records in the Junior Men's 200m Individual Medley (2:10.79) and Junior Men's 50m Freestyle (23.86) respectively.
